Spice up your water

Bored of drinking plain water?
As we discussed in the blog earlier this week, drinking 2-3 liters of good quality water a day is essential to our health.
I love the taste of water, but there are people – especially kids – who find it boring. Don’t get fooled by the fact that the main ingredient of soda is water as well. All the sugar, or artificial sweetener and added stuff just ruin the benefits of water.
So let’s “spice up” our water to make it more fun to drink. Here are a few suggestions:

Lemon-lime water
Slice and squeeze some organic lemon and lime into a jar of fresh water. You can let it sit for 10-20 minutes before drinking it. You can prepare a whole jar for the day. Add ice in the summer.
You have the added detoxifying and alkalizing benefit of the lemon and lime that also helps your digestion system, lowers blood pressure, relieves heartburn and constipation, anti-viral and rich in Vitamin C. If you really-really miss a fizzy drink, prepare your lemon-lime water with carbonated water. For a little bit of sweetness, you can add an orange as well. For extra freshness or decoration, add some fresh mint leaves.


Fruit water
You may put any seasonal fruit into your water for a little bit of taste. It is not a fruit juice though. Place the sliced or whole fruit into the water and let it rest for 2-8 hours in the fridge. You may try pineapple, melon, green apple, peach, apricot etc. Use your fantasy and experiment with different flavors and spices (cinnamon, sage, mint, rosemary).


Cucumber water
Use cucumber to add extra minerals and vitamins to your water. Cucumber contains potassium that helps lowering blood pressure and has silica for the benefit of your skin and muscles. It also has detoxing, anti-oxidant and potential anti-cancer properties.
